Normatec 2.0 Leg Recovery System
We’re excited to introduce to you a new service at our clinic – the Normatec 2.0 Leg Recovery System (known as recovery boots).
What are Normatec recovery boots?
Normatec recovery boots are used by many leading athletes, coaches and fitness enthusiasts around the world to reduce pain and inflammation, and to speed up the recovery between sessions and/or return to play. Normatec uses air compression technology to relieve muscle aches and/or pain and to temporarily increase circulation to the treated areas.
Who are they suitable for?
Normatec recovery boots are of particular benefit to patients who are involved in intensive sports or fitness training. Normatec devices are designed to help athletes to recover faster between workouts by reducing muscle soreness and improving circulation.
Normatec recovery boots can also provide relief to patients who are recovering from certain leg surgeries or who are experiencing lower limb swelling (injury, arthritis, lymphoedema etc.). Note: If you have any of these conditions, it’s best to ask your physiotherapist first if Normatec is a suitable treatment option for you.
How do they work?
Normatec recovery boots consist of a control unit and attachments which go on the legs. They use compressed air to:
Mobilise fluid, and
Speed up recovery.
You will first experience a pre-inflate cycle, during which the connected attachments are moulded to your exact body shape. The session will then begin by compressing your feet – a similar sensation to a blood pressure cuff; this feeling then subsides, and the inflation (compression) slowly works its way up your limbs, section by section. Over the course of the session, the boots feel like a deep pressure massage over the leg. The graduated pressure is soothing, relaxing and calming.
It is recommended to use the devices for up to 60 minutes. You can use Normatec devices daily, but if you are new to them, it is advised to start slowly and increase the frequency and duration over time. Our physiotherapists will recommend a suitable plan for you.

How to book
We offer 50-minute Normatec slots at our clinic in Castletroy, Limerick, which are available to through our Reception. Online booking is not currently available. The session charge is €25.00. When you arrive, one of our team will bring you to a treatment area and get you fitted into the Normatec recovery boots. You can either sit or lie on the treatment bed for the duration of the session. You might like to bring reading material or headphones with you to enjoy while the session is ongoing.
