We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Susan Coote, Optimise Neuro Physio, to our clinical team at Mid West Physiotherapy. Susan is a Chartered Physiotherapist specialising in neurological conditions including stroke, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathies and other conditions of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. She also offers specialised balance and vestibular rehabilitation, plus falls prevention programmes for older people.
What is involved
The purpose of neurological physiotherapy is to improve your strength, balance, flexibility and fitness, and optimise your function. It is suitable for patients at all stages of rehabilitation.
The patient will first have a full assessment of their current abilities and specific limitations. Together, the patient and physiotherapist will set goals and develop a treatment programme which is tailored to the patient’s needs and objectives. The programme may include exercise, hands-on and technology-supported treatments that aim to:
- Improve strength and muscle endurance
- Increase joint and muscle flexibility and range
- Improve balance and reduce risk of falls
- Reduce tone and spacticity
- Improve walking ability
- Improve quality of life
- Facilitate participation in our community
- Optimise return to work and sport and leisure activities
Who is suitable?
This type of physiotherapy is suitable for people with a neurologist- or gerontologist-confirmed diagnosis of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord or peripheral nerves. Treatment is suitable for people at any stage – recently diagnosed or living with a long-term neurological condition.
