Reflexology Limerick
At Mid West Physiotherapy Limerick we offer reflexology treatments among our core services. Alongside general reflexology, our Reflexologist, Sinéad Cleary, delivers specialised cancer care reflexology treatments for patients who are undergoing cancer treatment.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic-based therapy. It is a very safe, gentle yet powerful therapy suitable for people of all ages and can bring balance to the systems of the body. The therapist applies specific types of rhythmic pressure mainly with the thumbs to parts of the feet known as “reflexes”. These reflexes correspond to certain organs and systems of the body.
What can I expect during a treatment?
A treatment involves the client lying down fully clothed with shoes and socks removed. A reflexology session usually lasts for approximately 45 minutes, with 15 minutes afterwards for rest and relaxation.
Experiences with reflexology treatments vary from person to person. A person should experience a feeling a deep relaxation while some will feel a sense of warmth and lightness as the therapist works on the various organs and systems of the body.
Contraindications
The therapist will go through a detailed client consultation form with you at the initial consultation which will include details of any medical issues and lifestyle. Whilst reflexology is a very safe, non-invasive treatment, certain medical conditions may require your GP’s permission. It is worth to note that reflexology is a very adaptable treatment and the therapist will be able to tailor the session to your specific needs.
