Pregnancy, labour and delivery cause huge physical changes, some of which can be quite challenging for women, particularly if they involve pain or affect movement. Typical problems that can occur during the postnatal period include; back pain, neck pain and core muscle weakness.
At Mid West Physiotherapy, we have a specialist who is trained specifically in this area of care; Leonora Kennedy is an expert in postnatal exercise and wellness, and an experienced APPI-trained pregnancy Pilates teacher. Combining physiotherapy, exercise, guidance and support, she will help you to feel your best during this physically demanding time.
Postnatal Physiotherapy Assessment
The post-partum period, or the 4th trimester, is a time of recovery and restoration. It is a physically demanding time in itself, with back and neck pain presenting as common complaints. Mothers may also have have lingering pain, weakness or discomfort from their pregnancy and birth.
You don’t need to struggle or suffer with pain. Leonora will expertly assess and treat your pain, and give you a simple treatment plan which you can do at home. She will also be looking out for diastasis recti and any other muscle imbalances that may be contributing to pain or dysfunction postnatally. The focus at all times is on safe return to activity and functionality, and you will be guided and supported at every step of your recovery.
*Please note that our physiotherapy sessions do not involve internal (vaginal) examinations or treatment. We can recommend a specialist women’s health physiotherapist should you require.
