Chronic Pain is the Theme for World Physical Therapy Day 2019

September, for physiotherapists, means World Physical Therapy Day and, this year, chronic pain is the theme for World Physical Therapy Day 2019.

Chronic pain is a very common issue and one which we see regularly here at Mid West Physiotherapy, Limerick.  Chronic pain refers to pain which has persisted for 3 months or more.  It is very common and the causes are wide and varied.  Unfortunately many myths surround chronic pain and these can create a lot of fear and anxiety which, in turn, can exacerbate the symptoms.  However, the great news is that chronic pain can be managed effectively, and physiotherapy is a drug-free, non-invasive, cost-effective and proven solution.

And so, we’re delighted that chronic pain is the theme for World Physical Therapy Day 2019.  The World Congress of Physical Therapy have put together these infographics which do a great job of explaining chronic pain, and banishing the myths surrounding it.

Chronic pain has many causes and our expert physiotherapists treat each case uniquely.  It’s very important to us that we listen and hear patient’s story so as we can ascertain the factors which have contributed to their their chronic pain.

The good news is that chronic pain can be managed effectively with physiotherapy and by successfully doing so the paint will enjoy an improved quality of life.  Through our assessment process we get to know our patients, and we can prescribe exercise that is suitable, safe and fun for that person.  Click here to find out more about how we treat chronic pain at Mid West Physiotherapy, Limerick.
