At Mid West Physiotherapy, our experienced occupational health physiotherapists deliver Ergonomic Awareness Training to all kinds of companies, events and organisations. Ergonomic Awareness Training aims to teach employees how to identify risk factors for developing pain or injury in the workplace, and how to modify these.

What is it?

Ergonomic Awareness Training (EAT) is an hour long session provided to a small group of employees on site. It combines classroom based learning and practical workplace application. An expert chartered physiotherapist will teach employees about ergonomics, musculoskeletal disorders, and workstation set up. EAT is recommended for both the basics of visual display unit (VDU) ergonomics and production-based work spaces.

All of our office ergonomics programmes are created to help employers meet the legal requirements around display screen equipment in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Regulations 2007.

What is involved?

Our chartered physiotherapists tailor the learning material to your specific company and employees. Training will cover how to identify risk factors for the development of musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace, and strategies to modify these. Physical, environmental, individual, and psychosocial factors of musculoskeletal disorders will be discussed. Myths and misinformation surrounding pain and injury will also be discussed.

Strategies to use both in and out of work to improve health are included. Participants will be taught the evidence-based importance of exercise, regular breaks, and stretching – and even be shown simple stretches to do within the workplace.

Where format/event allows, a practical session will follow where employees will review their own work-spaces based on the lessons learned. Participants will then be taught how to independently adjust their work station

Benefits

Following the training, your employees will be able to identify risk factors musculoskeletal disorders, and strategies to modify these risks in the workplace. Participants will also learn the basics of computer (VDU) ergonomics and how to self adjust different workstations.

What to expect

You can expect a professional and engaging hour-long session tailored to your employees. The first part of the session will be presented in a meeting area on a projector. Ideally, we can set up practical sessions where employees show our physiotherapists their workspace. This can be a computer desk, production line, or other space. Generally speaking, Ergonomic Awareness Training is delivered in groups of 10 and sessions last for 60-minutes. Training is tailored to the specific needs and requirements of the company.
